先日仲良くなった外人とチャットをしていたら
Already nearly 1am…
You stay up late!
と言われました。
stsy up late なんて聞き馴染みがなかったので調べてみました。
そこには(夜遅くまで)起きていると書かれていました。
つまりは「夜更かし」ですね。
なので上の文章は
Already nearly 1am…
（もう１時近いじゃない）
You stay up late!
（夜更かしですよ！）
※You are stay up late.が正しい文章かな
みたいな感じでしょうかね。
ちなみに私の返信は
It’s okay. Today, I took nap time.
(大丈夫だよ。今日お昼寝したから)
のつもりで返しました。
問題なくやりとりは行えました。
せっかくなのでstay up lateを使った例文をいくつかあげてみます。
○例文
•You like to stay up late.
（夜更かしが好きなんですね）
•You must not stay up late.
（夜更かしはいけないよ）
•You had better not stay up late.
（遅くまでおきていない方が良いですよ。）
•It’s difficult for me to stay up late.
（私にとって夜更かしするのは難しい。）
“stay up late”私は夜型なのでよく使えそうです。
これを機に覚えようと思います。
